The University of Alabama in Huntsville remain undefeated during the early portions of the season while earning a second victory in the UAH Invitational presented by Bojangles.
On Friday, the Chargers (5-0) earned a 3-1 win against Spring Hill College to move to 2-0 in the three-day tournament.
The first set moved in favor of Spring Hill (0-4) early on as the Chargers fell behind 12-4. However, UAH battled back en route to a 8-2 run to bring the Chargers within just two points, 14-12. Ultimately, however, the Chargers were unable to overcome Spring Hill's early lead as the Badgers took Set 1, 25-19.
Early through the second set the Badgers took the lead, 3-0, before UAH went on a 5-2 advantage to even the score at five apiece, courtesy kills from Emily Redman, Kayla Ward, Ella Schumacher and Carlee Lowry, and a block from Mary Grace Bundrant. Neither side gave much ground until the end of the set as UAH controlled the end game with an 8-2 advantage to earn a 26-24 win in Set 2.
Again, the third set remained a close affair as neither side could gain much separation until UAH finished a run of three straight points to take a 10-7 lead. Not done, yet, the Chargers continued to push open the gap with a seven-point lead, 15-8, capped off by a Lowry service ace. The back half of the set decidedly belonged to UAH as the Chargers earned a 25-14 Set 3 win on a 10-4 run.
While closer, the final set fell the way of UAH as the hosting Chargers earned a 25-20 win. While Spring Hill tied the score after a pair of services, the Chargers took the lead at 2-1 and never relinquished their hold on Set 4, leading by as many as seven points throughout the set. UAH closed the set and match on a 3-0 run with a kill from Calli Tanielu before a pair of Spring Hill errors allowed the Chargers to remain undefeated for the season.
