Section IX: Prospective Student-Athlete, Admission & Public Release of Being a Charger

All prospective student-athletes are to seek admission to UAH according to regular admission policies of the institution. There are no special admission policies for student-athletes and all prospective student-athletes are treated the same as any of the prospective students seeking admissions. If a student athlete is enrolled under special admission conditions according to NCAA Division II Bylaw 14.1.6.1. University policy states that a committee comprised of the FAR and Registrar will decide if these special admission students will be allowed to participate in intercollegiate athletics during their conditional/probational time period, and what that level of participation will be. The committee will meet separately and a letter will be sent to the head coach stating if the student athlete will be allowed to participate in intercollegiate athletics during their conditional/probational time period and what that level of participation will be. A copy of this memo will be given to the AD, SA, FAR, Registrar, and on file in the compliance office. Media releases regarding addition of a PSA to a team will go through the UAH Sports Information Department, who will clear all publicity with the DoAC prior to putting anything out in the media or online.

Steps to take-

  1. Prospective student athlete is instructed to complete admission process for the university as stated online for all regular students
  2. Coaches will follow up periodically if the PSA is admitted
  3. The registrar will confirm PSA admission along normally accepted procedures prior to signing eligibility sheet.
  4. If the PSA is admitted as a conditional/probational student, a committee comprised of the FAR and Registrar will meet and decide of that PSA will be certified to participate and what that level of participation will be.
  5. The DoAC will attend those meetings as able, providing background test scores, EC and high school grade information as applicable. She will record decisions of the committee by preparing memos for signatures of the FAR and Registrar to the coach as to the decisions of the PSA
  6. The DoAC will secure the signatures of FAR and Registrar, and give original to the coach, and copies to the SA/PSA, AD, FAR and Registrar.
  7. For publicity, the Sports Information Director will seek approval from the DoAC prior to publicizing the signing or intent of attending our institution by any PSA.
  8. The DoAC will review the rules per the specific request of the SI Director, who will follow the interpretations policy as listed in Section I of this manual.
