1. NCAA Playing and Practice Seasons- UAH follows the NCAA manual for playing and practice seasons. Each sport, upon completion and approval by the Director of Athletics of their competed schedule, must submit a preliminary playing and practice calendar to the Director of Athletic Compliance for their fall and spring seasons. The Director of Athletic Compliance will review for anything not in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations, and communicate irregular findings to the head coach of the appropriate sport. If there are any changes in the playing and practice season, the head coach must submit a new dated calendar.
-
Declaration of Playing and Practice Season- Once the steps outlined in Section V.1 have been following, the head coach of the sport will complete a Declaration of Playing and Practice Season, and submit it for approval to the DoAC, prior to the season. The PPS declaration form can be updated with changes, and the procedure will start from the beginning until there is a newly updated and dated version. (17.1.3 DII). This DPPS is in JumkFowrad
Steps to take-
-
Each coach is to submit their playing and practice season declaration using the JumpForward software, and electronically sign and date.
- The DoAC will approve through the SWA communicating list to the DoAC
- Any updates or changes are to be made the same way, starting the process over.
2. Countable Athletically Related Activities Procedures- A calendar of countable related activities must be submitted through JumpForward at the beginning of each month. Information must be updated every month, even if the team is not performing in any countable activities:
Steps to take for CARA calendar monitoring:
a) At the end of the month, the coach must submit the revised, corrected calendar of the activities in JumpForward. The calendar should indicate the dates and times of practices and off days.
b) The calendar should total the amount of countable hours for each day, week, and month.
c) If the countable athletically related activities are different for the student-athletes in an individual sport, or for individualized skill instruction, each student-athlete and his/her hours should be listed on the form, either on the back or on an additional sheet.
d) These calendars are kept in the office of the Director of Athletic Compliance.
e) No countable athletic activity is to occur December 20-26 for those sports in season. In season teams may travel on December 20th after an away-from-home competition, provided that is the earliest practical opportunity to return to campus.
4. Student Athlete Time Commitment Survey- At least one time a year and typically one time a semester, a survey is given to student athlete representatives to request feedback on time commitments and how much time was spent in countable athletic related activities according to their sport. These results will be compiled by the DoAC and used as feedback for any areas that may need to be addressed.
Steps to take-
-
The SWA give the survey to SAAC representatives one times during the semester
-
The SAAC representatives will have their teams complete the survey and return
-
The results of the surveys will be given to the DoAC
-
The DoAC will review them for red flag areas and discuss any problems with the coaches, after reviewing the CARA logs.
-
If there are areas of concern, the DoAC will make sure to monitor more closely the next semester to see if there is a problem and take steps from there.
