UAH Suffers Another Five-Set Defeat, Loses 3-2 At CBU

MEMPHIS – The UAH volleyball team played in a five-set match once again, falling Tuesday night at Christian Brothers by a 3-2 score. With the setback, the Lady Chargers fall to 7-13 (2-5 Gulf South Conference) and CBU improves to 17-4 (5-2 GSC).

Four of the Blue and White's five losses in conference play have come in five-setters.

The match did not start out in UAH's favor as the squad fell 25-17 in the first.

The Lady Chargers were not deterred by a 14-10 hole in the second set, and they scored five of the next six points to pull into a 15-15 tie, receiving some help from CBU as it committed four errors in allowing the visitors back into the frame. Five more Lady Buc miscues down the stretch allowed UAH to capture the set by a 25-20 score.

The third set was completely lopsided towards the hosts as they lead by as many as 12 points at 14-2 en route to a 25-16 set decision.

It would have been easy for UAH to be discouraged after the third, but as has been the case so many times this season, the Blue and White responded in a stellar fashion.

Hitting at a strong .435 clip for the fourth set, the Lady Chargers dominated CBU in the frame, never trailing while winning 25-15 to force the fifth and final frame.

The fifth set featured an astonishing 10 ties and five lead changes, and the visitors enjoyed their final lead of the night at 12-11. CBU tallied the next two points to regain the advantage at 13-12 at which point Stacey Sargent recorded her ninth kill of the night to knot things up at 13-13. Unfortunately, the Lady Bucs scored two consecutive points to capture the match.

Sargent was one of three Lady Chargers who recorded nine kills as she was joined by Jessica Ruple and Carrie Brown. Kelsey Williams led the way with 10 successful attacks on the night while also adding a team-best five blocks.

Defensively, Kaeli McCaghren and Shelby League both recorded 14 digs, while Sargent joined the pair in double figures as she scooped out 12 balls.

The Lady Chargers will return to action this weekend as they travel to Pensacola, Fla., for the South Region Crossover.
