Volleyball Drops Pair At Crossover

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UAH volleyball team dropped a pair of games against Sunshine State Conference foes at the Gulf South Conference / Sunshine State Conference Crossover hosted by West Florida. UAH fell 3-0 to Lynn on Friday morning before losing 3-1 to Florida Southern in the afternoon.

Lynn won by set scores of 25-14, 25-15, and 25-20 in defeating the Lady Chargers.

UAH was led offensively by Jessica Ruple who tallied eight kills as the team registered just 23 while hitting at a .022 clip. Defensively, the squad totaled 37 digs with Kaeli McCaghren's eight leading the way. The Fighting Knights hit .280 for the match including a blazing .438 in the opening set.

The game with the Lady Mocs was a closer affair as FSC won by scores of 25-23, 25-23, 17-25, and 25-18.

UAH played much better, recording a team attack percentage of .274 for the match. Angela Thurmond hit at a blistering .545 as she tallied 13 kills on 22 attempts while committing just one error. Danyelle Smith was also strong as she attacked at a .444 clip with 10 kills on 18 swings and two errors.

Two other Lady Chargers recorded double-figures in kills including Ruple who successfully attacked 11 times, while Kelsey Williams compiled 12 kills. Kelly Wilson led the way with 27 assists, and Ashton Baker turned in 20 helpers.

McCaghren was a defensive machine, scooping out a stunning 32 balls on the night. Baker also registered double-digits as she dug out 14.

The Blue and White will continue play at the Crossover on Saturday as it takes on Eckerd and Saint Leo. The matches are slated to start at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
