Volleyball Readies For Three-Match Conference Road Trip

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team (7-17, 2-5 GSC) opens up a three-match conference road swing, beginning with a tilt at West Alabama (16-8, 4-3 GSC) Tuesday night at Pruitt Hall at 7 p.m.

UAH aims to snap a five-match losing streak against a Tigers team that defeated the Lady Chargers in a tight 3-2 match earlier in the season. In this season's first meeting, UWA claimed the fifth and final set by a score of 21-19 to clinch the match.

The Lady Chargers will be led by senior Jessica Ruple who tops the team with 259 kills while ranking second on the squad with 224 digs.

Despite winning just five of its last 10 matches, UWA has won three of its last four by a combined score of 9-1. The Tigers are led by senior Angela Sanders who has a team-high 258 kills and fellow classmate Casey Byrnes who leads the team with 305 digs. Sanders ranks fourth in the Gulf South Conference in kills, while Byrnes is third in the league in digs.

UAH owns a 31-21 advantage in the all-time series between the two schools, though UWA has claimed eight of the last 10 against the Lady Chargers, including the previous two meetings.

UAH will continue its road trip with a pair of conference contests over the weekend, facing Valdosta State on Friday and West Georgia on Saturday. The matches are slated for 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. (CDT), respectively.
