HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team (7-18, 2-6 GSC) continues a three-game Gulf South Conference road stretch as the squad faces Valdosta State on Friday and West Georgia on Saturday. The matches are slated for a 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. (CDT) start, respectively.
The Lady Chargers are coming off a defeat to West Alabama, 3-1, on Tuesday and will aim to snap a six-match losing streak. Senior
Jessica Ruple continues to lead UAH and notched her eighth double-double of the season against UWA with a season-best 18 kills and 20 digs. On the year, Ruple tops the team with 277 kills while ranking second on the squad with 244 digs.
UAH will begin the weekend with a meeting against a Valdosta State team (13-12, 3-5 GSC) that has dropped four of its last five matches but defeated UAH earlier this season, 3-2. The Lady Chargers held a 2-1 set advantage earlier this season against the Blazers, but fell in the following two sets to drop the match.
Historically, UAH holds a 23-11 advantage in the all-time series, though Valdosta State has claimed the last seven matches against the Lady Chargers. UAH last defeated the Blazers in 2007 when the squad swept the season series, 3-1 and 3-1.
For Saturday's match, UAH will face West Georgia is 8-17 (2-6 GSC) that has won three of its last five matches, but only managing four wins in its last 15 matches.
The series between the two schools is led by UAH, holding a 35-11 advantage over the Wolves, including a 3-1 victory from the season's first meeting. The team's split last year's series and West Georgia has claimed six of the last 10 matches.
