VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team got a match-high 21 digs from senior
Kaeli McCaghren but fell to Valdosta State, 3-1, on Friday night at The Complex. With the loss, UAH falls to 7-19 on the year, 2-7 in the GSC, while Valdosta State improves to 14-12 overall and 4-5 in league play.
On a difficult evening for UAH, the Blazers proved to be too much for the Lady Chargers, which was held to just a .081 hitting percentage. Leading the squad in the category was senior
Carrie Brown with 11 kills at a .162 clip. Senior
Jessica Ruple notched a team-high 13 kills while junior
Kelly Wilson passed out 29 assists.
In the first set, the Lady Chargers jumped out to an early 6-1 lead, but Valdosta State used a 13-6 run to take a 14-12 advantage. The Blazers would eventually claim the set with extra points, 27-25.
Valdosta State won the second game, 25-17, before UAH answered back in the third set with a 25-19 victory to cut the set deficit to 2-1. The Blazers took control, however, in the fourth set and jumped out to leads of 14-4 and 20-11 en route to a match-clinching 25-19 victory.
Even with picking up a loss, the Lady Chargers held the Blazers to a .162 hitting percentage, including a .075 clip in the first set. Chelsea Logan posted a match-high 16 kills in the victory for Valdosta State.
UAH returns to action on Saturday against West Georgia as it rounds out this three-game conference road stretch. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. (CDT) start.
