CARROLLTON, Ga. – Senior
Jessica Ruple notched her third double-double in as many matches as the University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team defeated West Georgia, 3-1, (18-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-18) in a Gulf South Conference match at The Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. UAH improves to 8-19 on the year, 3-7 in the GSC, while West Georgia falls to 8-19 overall and 2-8 in league play.
Ruple continued to lead the squad, posting a match-high 15 kills and 13 digs to mark her 10th double-double of the season. Sophomores
Angela Thurmond and
Stacey Sargent joined Ruple with double-digit kills of 11 and 10, respectively, while junior
Kelly Wilson handed out a match-high 44 assists.
In addition, the Lady Chargers were as efficient as they have been all year, tallying a season-best .294 hitting percentage. On the flip side, UAH held West Georgia to a .203 hitting percentage.
After falling to the Wolves, 25-18, in the first set, the Lady Chargers answered back with a close 25-22 victory in the second game. UAH continued to pile the pressure on in the third set, jumping out to a 19-10 lead en route to 25-15 win to take a 2-1 advantage over West Georgia.
The final set was much of the same as UAH claimed the match-clincher 25-18. Over the final three sets, the Lady Chargers never trailed and were tied just nine times.
UAH returns home for the remainder of regular season play. Up next, the squad will host conference opponents New Orleans and West Florida on Oct. 28 and Oct. 29, respectively.
