Volleyball To Face New Orleans And West Florida

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team (8-19, 3-7 GSC) returns home for a crucial weekend against two Gulf South Conference opponents, facing New Orleans on Friday and West Florida on Saturday. The matches are slated for a 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. start, respectively, at Spragins Hall.

There will be promotions for both matches this weekend. On Friday, everyone is encouraged to dress up for Halloween while Saturday's contest will be the Breast Cancer Awareness Day match so everyone is encouraged to wear pink.

The Lady Chargers recently snapped a seven-match losing streak with a victory over West Georgia, 3-1, on Saturday. Coming off her 10th double-double of the season, senior Jessica Ruple continues to lead UAH on the court. Ruple notched her third-consecutive double-double against West Georgia with 15 kills and 13 digs. On the year, Ruple tops the team with 305 kills while ranking second on the squad with 269 digs.

UAH will open the weekend with a contest against a New Orleans squad (2-14, 0-10 GSC) that is in the midst of a 13-match losing streak. The Lady Chargers dropped UNO earlier in the year by a dominating score of 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-15) in which UAH trailed for just 18 of the 113 points.

The meeting between UNO and UAH is just the second in the program's history as the Privateers just joined the GSC this season.

For Saturday's match, UAH will face conference-leader West Florida (19-8, 10-0 GSC) that is currently ranked No. 4 in the South Region. Of West Florida's last 17 matches, the Argonauts have lost just once, falling to nationally-ranked No. 1 Tampa. The Lady Chargers fell 3-0 to West Florida in the first contest of this season between the two programs.

The series between the two schools is led by West Florida, holding a 14-7 advantage over UAH and defeating the Lady Chargers in 13 consecutive meetings.
