HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team will begin its 2011-12 regular season campaign on Monday night when it hosts the Fisk Lady Bulldogs. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. CST at Spragins Hall.
Monday's game marks the second meeting between the two schools, with UAH winning the first contest last year in the opener by a score of 102-64.
UAH finished the 2010-11 season with an 11-15 overall record, continuing to improve as the squad finished just 4-20 two seasons ago in 2009-10.
UAH is led by the sophomore duo of
Jasmine Hammon and
Jordan Smith, who were both recently named to the Preseason All-GSC Team. In addition, Hammon was tabbed the 2010-11 GSC East Division Freshman of the Year, WBCA State Farm All-American (Honorable Mention) and a Women's Division II Bulletin Freshman All-American last year.
The Lady Chargers dropped its two exhibition games this year to Division I opponents Middle Tennessee State, 124-55, and UAB, 81-61. UAH was led by Smith against UAB who poured in 19 points while junior
Natalie Kelley notched a team-high nine rebounds.
