Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Freshman Juanice Newton notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in her collegiate debut, leading the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team (1-0) to a 105-60 victory over Fisk (0-3) in the season opener Monday evening at Spragins Hall. The 106 points scored by the Lady Chargers is the fifth-highest total in program history.

“We're pretty excited to get the win, you have to start somewhere,” head coach Roy Heintz said. “I thought we could go a little farther with the up-tempo game but we have six in double figures and we're pleased with that. We've got some work to do defensively and on the boards, that's what wins games. We're going to have to get better with that.”

In addition to Newton's stellar rookie opener, six Lady Chargers scored in double-digits. Sophomore Jordan Smith led the way with a game-high 17 points, while fellow classmate Jasmine Hammon added 16, Newton had 14, juniors Bailee Robinson and Morgan Duncan had 12 and junior Francheska Nimes tallied 10 on the night. Junior Natalie Kelley also put up double digits with 10 rebounds to lead the squad in the category with Newton.

As a team, the Lady Chargers connected on 38-of-41 (46.9 percent) shots while holding Fisk to just 21-of-56 (37.5 percent) shooting from the field. UAH held a significant advantage in the turnover battle, giving up the ball 20 times while forcing Fisk into 40 mishandles, including the Lady Chargers stealing the ball 27 times.

Holding a 61-28 advantage at the half, the Lady Chargers continued to build on its lead en route to a 105-60 victory, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 44-31 in the second half. The win marks the third straight season-opening win for UAH.
