Volleyball Set For Shorter And Christian Brothers

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Having already clinched a berth in the Gulf South Conference Tournament for the first time since 2005, the University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team (9-21, 4-9 GSC) must first wrap up its final three matches of the regular season. The Lady Chargers will host, at Spragins Hall, non-conference opponent Shorter on Friday at 6 p.m. before facing GSC-foe Christian Brothers on Saturday at 1 p.m.

UAH will be looking to get back in the win column after dropping its previous two matches to West Florida and North Alabama by scores of 3-1 each. The squad will turn to senior Jessica Ruple and sophomore Angela Thurmond who have been leading the team offensively over the past two matches. In the last two contests, the duo has combined for 47.6 percent (40-of-84) of the team's kills.

The Lady Chargers will begin the weekend against a Shorter team (27-7) that will be closing out its regular season and has lost just once in its last 11 matches. Of the Lady Hawks 27 wins this season, 21 have been by shutout as the squad has seemed to cruise to 3-0 victories all year.

The meeting between Shorter and UAH will be just the third all-time with the series currently knotted at 1-1. Shorter claimed the last contest on Sept. 24, 2010 by a score of 3-1.

On Saturday, UAH will return to conference play as Christian Brothers (23-8, 9-3 GSC) visits Spragins Hall. The Lady Bucs fell to Harding, 3-0, in its most recent outing but had won seven of its last 10 contests previous to facing Harding.

In the season's first meeting against Christian Brothers, the Lady Chargers fell, 3-2, on the road by a slim 15-13 score in the fifth and decisive set. Historically, UAH owns a 22-11 advantage over the Lady Bucs in the all-time series. However, UAH will be attempting to snap a four-match losing streak to Christian Brothers – UAH last won in the series in 2007 by a score of 3-1.
