Lady Chargers Defeat Montevallo, 77-67

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – With a win over Montevallo Wednesday evening by a score of 77-67, the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team improves its record to 4-1 for the first time since the 2001-02 season. The Lady Chargers earned its 30th win over the Falcons who move to 4-2 on the year.

UAH led from the tip-off, extending its lead to a game-best 14 points on a layup by junior Francheska Nimes at the 8:16 mark in the first half. Montevallo fought back, however, to tie the game just four minutes late at 27-27 with 4:29 remaining in the opening half but the Lady Chargers wouldn't give up the lead and took a 40-35 advantage to the break.

The second half was much of the same though the Lady Chargers trailed Montevallo once, but only by one point and for just 54 seconds. The Falcons cut the deficit to one several times but could never regain the lead as UAH went on to a 10-point victory.

Sophomore Jasmine Hammon poured in a game-high 26 points and grabbed a rebound with 13 seconds remaining to notch her 10th rebound of the day, notching her second consecutive double-double and third of the year. Fellow classmate Jordan Smith continued to show remarkable consistency as she has now scored in double digits every game this season, including 14 points tonight.

Junior Natalie Kelley just missed her second consecutive double-double, finishing the night with nine points and 10 rebounds.

On the night, both teams shot the ball similarly as UAH connected on 39.3 percent (24-of-61) of its shots from the floor and Montevallo downed 37.8 percent (28-of-74) from the floor.

The Lady Chargers have the next 11 days off before hosting Truett-McConnell on Dec. 12 at Spragins Hall. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. (CST).
