HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team (6-1) returns to action this weekend as the squad travels to Lakeland, Fla., for the FSC/Terrace Hotel Classic. The Lady Chargers will face two quality region opponents in the tournament at the Jenkins Field House.

UAH will matchup against Saint Leo (6-1) on Sunday, Dec. 18, at noon CST before meeting host No. 20 Florida Southern (7-1) at 4 p.m. CST on Monday, Dec. 19.

With a win over Saint Leo, the Lady Chargers would be starting the season 7-1 for just the third time in program history and first time since the 1990-91 season. The 1990-91 and 1982-83 squads both began their seasons 8-1.

UAH enters the weekend riding a four-game winning streak in which the Lady Chargers are defeating opponents by an average score of 78-60. Most recently, the squad defeated Concordia-Selma, 77-60, on Thursday behind four players scoring in double digits.

Saint Leo just recently dropped its first game of the year on Tuesday to Newberry, 59-46, but had begun the year by reeling off six straight wins before the loss. The Lions are led in scoring by Chelsea Williams who is averaging 12.6 points per game.

Florida Southern has played just once at home this season after starting its 2011-12 campaign with a 6-1 record on the road, falling only to No. 13 Rollins, 74-59. Other than the Rollins game, Florida Southern has been taking care of its opponents pretty handily, carrying a winning margin of 22.1 points. The Mocs currently have four players scoring in double-digits per game, led by Michaela Hawley who is averaging 21.5 each contest.

UAH has faced Saint Leo just twice all-time and the series is currently knotted at 1-1. The two teams last met on Nov. 15, 2008 when Saint Leo claimed a 71-58 victory. UAH earned its win in the series during the 2007-08 season, defeating the Lions in overtime by a score of 77-76.

In the all-time series against Florida Southern, the Moccasins own a 2-1 advantage over UAH. The last meeting was in Florida Southern's favor, defeating UAH by a score of 93-64 on Nov. 16, 2008. UAH's win came during the 2003-04 season in overtime by a score of 69-67.
