HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team (7-2) returns to action for the final game of the 2011 portion of its schedule when it hosts Tennessee Temple (0-15) in Spragins Hall on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CST.
In its last outing, UAH had its five-game winning streak snapped in a 78-69 loss to No. 20 Florida Southern on the road. The Lady Chargers led the Moccasins from the tip through midway of the second half before a 13-3 FSC run with 5:34 remaining put UAH away in the contest.
Despite the loss, the Lady Chargers continue to be led by the sophomore duo of
Jasmine Hammon and
Jordan Smith who have scored in double digits in each game this season.
In addition, Hammon recently garnered her second GSC Player of the Week accolade of the season for her efforts over the last three games. In those games, the Muscle Shoals, Ala., native poured in more than 22 percent of the team's points while shooting nearly 53 percent from the field.
Tennessee Temple comes into the matchup still searching for its first win of the year. The Lady Crusaders are 0-15 on the season though its last loss was the team's closest contest all year, falling by just five points to Reinhardt College, 59-54.
Historically, this will be the 11th meeting between the two schools but the first since a 98-36 UAH victory on Jan. 27, 1992. The Lady Chargers have never lost to the Lady Crusaders, owning a commanding 10-0 record in the all-time series.
Following the Tennessee Temple contest, the Lady Chargers return to action on Jan. 5 at West Alabama for their first Gulf South Conference game of the season. Tipoff in Livingston is set for 5:30 p.m.
