UAH Defeats UWA In Extra Time

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - In the first Gulf South Conference game of the season for both squads, the UAH women's soccer team and West Alabama played to an exciting double overtime conclusion, with Cady Reisman scoring the winner in the 116th minute. The Lady Chargers move to 2-5 (1-0 GSC) with the victory while UWA falls to 3-4 (0-1 GSC).

Reisman was at the right of the box and fired it past UWA keeper Jess Martin for the deciding goal.

Khadijah Jannah had a strong chance in the 98th minute, but Martin was up to the test and made the stop send the Lady Chargers into double overtime for the first time this season.

The Lady Chargers struck first in the contest, scoring in the game's in the 32nd minute. Becca Mauldin took one of four corners the visitors would have in the first half, finding Marie Blunt who headed it into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

The score remained that way until the 67th minute when UWA put a goal on the board as Nicola Gibson forced one past Iris Gunnarsdottir.

A few minutes later, UWA's Vicky Petrova found herself open in front of the UAH keeper, but Gunnarsdottir kept the score tied with as she ventured out and made a sprawling stop, setting up the overtime.

For the contest, the teams were even in shots with each team recording nine while UWA held an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal as Gunnarsdottir made seven saves on the night.

UAH will return to action on Sunday when it travels to St. Leo, Fla., to take on Saint Leo at 11 a.m. CDT.
