HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Opening conference play for the 2011 campaign, the UAH volleyball team will welcome Gulf South Conference opponents Valdosta State on Friday evening for a 7 p.m. contest and West Georgia on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Lady Chargers enter the weekend with a 4-8 mark after splitting a pair of matches last Saturday, blanking Augusta State 3-0 before falling 3-1 to Montevallo.
For their efforts in the tri-match, UAH's
Kelsey Williams and
Jessica Ruple were named among the top performers in the GSC for the week ending Sept. 18. Williams registered a solid .315 hitting percentage as she notched 25 kills while committing just seven miscues in 57 attempts in the two contests, while Ruple averaged a double-double by tallying 21 kills and 33 digs.
The Lady Blazers visit on Luau Night at Spragins Hall featuring an 8-4 mark including a 1-0 record in GSC play as they defeated UWG 3-0 in Valdosta this Tuesday. VSU outhit its opponent by a .263-.083 clip in that affair and were led by Katie Onushko who recorded 14 kills.
Onushko leads Friday's visitors with 139 kills, while Ashley Lala leads with 423 assists along with 134 digs.
Following the loss to VSU, the Wolves own a 4-10 (0-1 GSC) record. The offensive leaders on the team are Emily Reul and Helen Menchinger as they have recorded 146 and 127 kills, respectively. Reul is also the team's defensive leader as she boasts 136 digs.
