HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Responding from Friday's night tough five-set defeat to Valdosta State, the UAH volleyball team defeated visiting West Georgia on Saturday at Spragins Hall. The win moves the Lady Chargers to 5-9 (1-1 Gulf South Conference) on the year while UWG falls to 4-12 (0-3 GSC).
The visitors on Saturday started out on fire, dropping UAH 25-13 in the first set as they capitalized on nine miscues by the Lady Chargers.
But the Blue and White would not be deterred by the early hole and responded by taking the first four points in a 25-20 victory in the second set. After hitting -.032 in the first frame, the Lady Chargers reduced their mistakes and hit at a solid .321 clip in the second stanza.
The performance continued to grow stronger for the hosts as they attacked at a .385 rate in the third set for another 25-20 win, and dominating the final set, UAH turned in 16 kills and just two errors on 35 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage in fourth to take it 25-16.
Jessica Ruple picked up yet another double-double as she joined
Kelsey Williams atop the team's ledger with 14 digs while adding 11 digs.
Kelly Wilson again led the way in assists as she turned in 37.
Defensively, the team's leader was
Kaeli McCaghren who scooped out 12 balls on the day.
The team also picked up seven aces on the day including four from
Kirsten Rousseau.
UAH will look to string together a pair of conference wins as it continues GSC play on Tuesday night when West Alabama travels to town. The contest with the Tigers is slated to begin at 7 p.m. in Spragins Hall.
