Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss. – Sophomore Jasmine Hammon poured in a team-high 24 points but the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team (13-3, 4-1 GSC) dropped a 92-74 decision to Delta State (10-4, 4-1 GSC) on Thursday at Sillers Coliseum. The loss snaps the Lady Chargers' six-game winning streak, which was the longest such streak since the 2002-03 season.
 
Delta State, the preseason unanimous pick to claim the league title, moves into a tie with UAH atop the Gulf South Conference standings with both teams holding a 4-1 conference record.
 
Hammon's 24 points led a trio of Lady Chargers scoring in double figures on the night. Fellow classmate Jordan Smith and junior Natalie Kelley added 19 and 10 points, respectively, while Smith just missed a double-double by adding a team-high seven rebounds.
 
UAH never led in the game, tying the game just twice at the 17:58 and 15:08 marks in the first half. The Lady Chargers trailed the Lady Statesmen by 12 points, 45-33, heading into the break. UAH cut the deficit down to seven points early in the second half but couldn't close the gap as DSU extended its advantage en route to an 18-point victory, 92-74.
 
The Lady Statesmen, ranked fifth nationally in scoring defense, couldn't slow down the Lady Chargers' seventh-ranked scoring offense as DSU has been giving up an average of 50 points per game but UAH poured in 74 points. UAH is the first team to score more than 61 points against DSU this season.
 
However, UAH struggled on the defensive end, surrendering a season-high 92 points to the Lady Statesmen who connected on a stunning 51.6 percent (32-of-62) from the field. It is the highest shooting percentage for DSU since posting 51.8 percent in its season-opener against Southern Arkansas. By comparison, the Lady Chargers connected on 37.1 percent (23-of-62) from the field – the highest percentage allowed by DSU in seven games.
 
The conference leader in scoring, Veronica Walker, led the Lady Statesmen with the game's lone double-double, posting 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. DSU held the advantage on the glass, bringing down 44 rebounds to UAH's 31.
