HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team will step out of GSC play this Friday when they travel to the state of Missouri for a pair of nonconference matches.
The Lady Chargers (10-12) will have their hands full in their opening match against Nebraska-Kearney at 4:00 p.m. on Friday in Bolivar, Missouri, on the campus of Southwest Baptist. The Lopers will come in ranked as the No. 5 team in the country with a dominating 20-2 record. UNK was ranked as the No. 1 team in the country last week.
Competing in the MIAA (Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association), UNK recently lost their first match of the season last Wednesday and dropped another match on Friday. They have since rebounded to win their past six sets.
UAH will follow that match by taking on the hosts in Southwest Baptist University. SBU has not seen as much success this season as UNK, but still compete in the very difficult MIAA. The Bearcats come in at 8-16 on the season and have lost their last three matches in straight sets.
After defeating Valdosta State 3-1 on Friday, the Lady Chargers ran into a buzz saw that was West Florida. The Argos are now ranked No. 22 in the land and control the GSC sitting in first place. UAH has now lost five of their last six and will look outside of conference play to get back on track.
Junior
Angela Thurmond leads UAH in kills with 260, while senior

UAH will return home on Tuesday, October 30, when they host their annual Halloween game. The night will also be celebrated as Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Spragins Hall. Fans are encouraged to dress up for Halloween or wear pink as a sign of support.
The UAH athletic teams will also have a costume contest to see which team is dressed the best.
