Box Score ROME, Ga. – The Lady Chargers fell on the road Thursday night, losing 3-0 at the hands of Shorter in GSC action.
UAH (9-8, 3-4 GSC) could never get any momentum going against the Hawks (12-2, 5-2 GSC) and failed to move their conference record over .500 in the process.
The first set was taken by the hosts, but only by a narrow 25-23. After
Angela Thurmond finished three kills in a row the match was tied at 20-20, but UAH couldn't stop the Shorter attack down the stretch and fell behind one set to none.
Shorter wasted no time in the second set and ran away with a 25-12 convincing victory. UAH would fall behind by as much as 10-3, a hole too large to crawl out of.
UAH tried to force a fourth set, battling Shorter to the very end, coming up just short at 25-23. The set could have gone either way when it was tied at 23-23, but Shorter took the final two points and sent UAH home in straight sets.
Angela Thurmond was the only player to finish with double-digit kills, totaling 14 in the match.
Erin Keeney played a solid match as well, coming away with seven kills at crucial moments.
Although two of the three sets could have gone to either side, UAH came up short in both sets, losing 25-23 twice in those three.
The Lady Chargers return to action this Saturday, when they play a pair of games at Montevallo. UAH will take on USC-Aiken in their first game at 2:00 p.m. and will follow up with a match against Montevallo at 4:00 p.m.
