HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The fourth-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team will wrap up its pre-holiday slate when it welcomes Tennessee Temple for a 7 p.m. contest at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Monday. The Chargers will take a 7-1 record into the contest while the Crusaders own a mark of 7-4.
Tennessee Temple knocked off previously undefeated North Alabama 71-68 in Florence in its last contest back on Dec. 8.
UAH has won five in a row, and the Chargers have shot over 50 percent in four of those five contests to boost their season field goal percentage to 48.5 percent - a mark that paces the Gulf South Conference.
During the span,
Jaime Smith has averaged 20.7 points per game while also dishing out an average of 6.3 assists. The strong play has resulted in his scoring averaging jumping up to a team-best 15.3 points per contest.
He leads a quartet of four Chargers who average double figures including reigning GSC Player of the Week
Ronnie Mack who averages 11.6 points on the strength of a 3-point field goal percentage 59.0 percent, and Mack currently sits second in the nation in that statistical category.
The Chargers as a team rank seventh in Division II with 10.5 treys per contest.
Monday's contest marks the 15th all-time between the two programs, and Tennessee Temple owns a slight 8-6 advantage in the series. There has not been a meeting, however, since Dec. 15, 2001.
Four players helped the Crusaders beat North Alabama - led by Aaron Walker's 16 off the bench. The squad also features the defending Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week Hampton Mack who scored 14 and grabbed six rebounds in the victory over the Lions.
