HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Wrapping up its slate of games before the holiday break, the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team is set for its second trip to the Sunshine State. The Lady Chargers (5-3) will face No. 24 Tampa (7-0) on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. CST before battling Florida Southern (4-3) at 2:15 p.m. CST on Wednesday.
Both contests will be on the campus of Florida Southern in Lakeland, Fla.
The Lady Chargers will be aiming to bounce back from a 65-60 defeat at Trevecca Nazarene in their previous contest.
Jasmine Hammon scored 14 in that contest and currently sits second in the Gulf South Conference with a scoring average of 18.8 points, and her teammate
Jordan Smith ranks third as she is scoring 16.9 points per game.
Recording her second double-double of the season in the contest was
Natalie Kelley who paces the GSC in field goal percentage by connecting on 61.1 percent of her attempts, and her 8.9 rebounds per game is good for third in the league.
Their efforts have helped the squad to place second in the conference with 70 points per contest.
Tuesday's meeting with the Spartans marks just the third between the two programs with each team owning a win, and Florida Southern holds a 3-1 advantage in that all-time series including a 78-69 victory a year ago in Lakeland.
Four Tampa players have averaged double figures to help guide the team to its perfect start. Illyssa Vivo leads the way with 13.9 points per game.
For Florida Southern, both Kirstin McIntyre and Taylor Maldonado lead the team with a scoring average of 12.6 points per game.
