Volleyball Splits on Day Two of HSU Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Arkadelphia, Ark. – The UAH volleyball team split their two games once again as part of the HSU Classic, taking down Henderson State, 3-0, before falling to West Alabama, 1-3.

UAH took care of the hosts in their first game of the day in straight sets, 3-0. The Lady Chargers improved their record to 2-1 on the season, taking down Henderson State 25-16, 25-21 and 25-15.

It was a balanced attack that led UAH in their third match of the season, as four players finished with at least seven kills.

Kendall Knisley and Stacey Sargent led the way with eight kills apiece, while Kelsey Williams and Angela Thurmond spiked down seven each. Knisley also had six digs and a pair of aces.

Kennedie Lariscy finished with five digs to help lead the Lady Chargers to their second win of the season.

Ashton Baker and Kelly Wilson were again setting up the attack beautifully, as they combined for 30 assists between the two of them.

With the straight-set victory over Henderson State, UAH won six straight consecutive sets.

HSU (1-2) was led by Ty Lindberg who finished with seven kills and four blocks.

UAH (2-2) fell to Gulf South Conference-member West Alabama in their fourth and final game of the 2012 HSU Classic.

The Lady Chargers were even at a set apiece after two complete, but the Tigers (3-1) took back-to-back sets to get the win and drop UAH to an even 2-2 on the season.

Thurmond led the attack with 11 kills and two blocks, with Williams adding nine kills. Sargent finished with seven, while Kirsten Rousseau and Knisley each had five kills.

It was again Wilson and Baker who set up the UAH hitters, but the West Alabama front was too strong to overcome in the end.

UAH will end their season-opening weekend with an even record and will look to build on some positive results next weekend (September 6-8) when they host their annual Country Inn & Suites Tournament.

Seven teams travel to Huntsville to take part in the tournament. The action begins on Thursday night, with UAH taking on Henderson State at 7:00 p.m.
