Lady Chargers Drop GSC-Opener to VSU

Box Score VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Lady Chargers dropped their conference-opener on Friday night, falling to Valdosta State 3-0 on the road.

UAH (5-5, 0-1 GSC) couldn't sustain any sort of attack against the host Blazers (7-3, 1-1 GSC) and went down in straight sets.

The first set was back and forth, but with the score tied at 18, VSU went on a 5-0 run to jump out front 23-18. The Blazers would go on to win the set 25-21.

The Lady Chargers played their best effort in the second set, as they rallied to win nine consecutive points after falling behind 22-13. UAH stormed back to tie the set at 22 but couldn't pull out the second set victory and missed a good opportunity on the road falling 26-24 to go down two sets to none.

UAH was right there again in what would be the third and final set, only losing 25-21. The match started out balanced as the two teams were tied at 10 points apiece. Then the Blazers went on a 5-0 run to take the 15-10 lead. The Lady Chargers could not catch up from there and went down 25-21.

Angela Thurmond led the way offensively with eight kills and four blocks. Erin Keeney had a season-high six kills, while Kelsey Williams and Stacey Sargent each finished the match with five.

Libero Kennedie Lariscy recorded 12 digs with Ashton Baker digging out nine. Baker also finished with a team-high 16 assists. Senior Kelly Wilson added 14 assists.

The loss drops UAH back to .500 on the season and the Lady Chargers will look to bounce back on Sunday when they travel to Pensacola, Florida, to take on West Florida. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
