Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team dropped its second straight Gulf South Conference game on Sunday, falling to West Florida in straight sets, 3-0.
UAH (5-6, 0-2 GSC) ran into a very tough West Florida (6-5, 3-0 GSC) team on Sunday afternoon in Pensacola, failing to salvage a split of their GSC opening weekend.
The first set began with the Lady Chargers racing out to an 8-3 lead, courtesy of six straight points served by
Kelsey Williams. A couple of
Olivia Bauman kills helped spark the early UAH lead.
After the set went back and forth, the hosts would go on a crucial run late. With the score tied at 16-16, UWF scored nine of the next 11 points to come away with the 25-18 victory in the opening set.
The second set was highly contested, but it was again the Argonauts who made critical points late in the set. UAH held a late-lead at 20-19, but UWF won six of the last seven points scored to take set number two, 25-21 and the 2-0 lead.
Despite opening up a 5-1 lead in the third set, UAH was again unable to fend off the talented Argonauts. It was an 8-0 run midway through that was the deciding factor in the third and final set, as UWF came away with a 25-18 victory.
The loss puts UAH behind the 8-ball to start GSC play, as the Lady Chargers open up the season 0-2.
It was the freshman Bauman who led the attack with nine kills, while
Erin Keeney finished with seven.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Saturday, September 22, when they host GSC-rival West Alabama. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
