HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team looks to get back on track this weekend, when it welcomes in West Alabama on Saturday.
The Lady Chargers (5-6, 0-2 GSC) are hoping to bounce back from last weekend's 0-2 trip to Valdosta State and West Florida. UAH dropped both matches by a score of 3-0, but those scores aren't quite indicative for how strong Coach Taube's squad played.
West Alabama (9-3, 2-1 GSC) will visit Spragins Hall having won four of their last five matches, including a pair of conference victories over Union (3-0) and North Alabama (3-1).
Five of the nine Tigers' wins have come in only three sets. West Alabama defeated UAH back on September 1 in the HSU Classic, 3-1.
The Tigers took both matches last season from the Lady Chargers, winning on the road in five sets and taking down UAH at home, 3-1.
Junior
Angela Thurmond will look to continue her recent success and add to her team-leading 117 kill total.
Kelsey Williams and
Stacey Sargent will also need to show big offensively for UAH to pick up their first GSC win in 2012.
Thurmond currently leads the GSC in hitting percentage with a .389 so far this season.
UAH will have to prevent West Alabama from scoring off serves. The Tigers lead the GSC in service aces with 108, over 30 more than the next closest team.
West Alabama will travel to Shorter on Friday night then turn around and head back to Huntsville to take on the Lady Charger at home. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
