HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team hits the road this weekend, taking on Christian Brothers and Union University on Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Chargers (7-6, 1-2 GSC) will look to build on a two-game winning streak, including their first conference win of the season last Saturday over West Alabama in five sets. They cruised by Stillman on Tuesday in straight sets.
UAH travels to Memphis, Tennessee, on Friday (7:00 p.m.) to take on Christian Brothers (8-3, 3-0 GSC) who is still
undefeated in conference play this year.
CBU is on a four-game winning streak, including three in a row over GSC schools. They have won their past three GSC
games by a combined 9-3 score. Those opponents include Valdosta State, West Florida and West Alabama.
Leading the Bucs so far this season has been Hannah Kurtz and Hailey Gillis. The two have combined for 257 kills, good enough for almost six kills per set.
Last season the Lady Chargers lost to CBU in five sets in Memphis, and fell 3-0 in Huntsville.
On Saturday (1:00 p.m.), UAH heads to Jackson, Tennessee, to take on one of the newest members to the GSC, Union University.
The Lady Bulldogs (3-7, 0-3 GSC) are headed the opposite way however, having lost their last four matches in a row. Two of those matches came against GSC foes.
They have only taken three sets in those past four games and have only won one set in their three GSC games.
Kristin Cook leads Union offensively with 92 kills on the season, while blocking 18 attacks.
This will be the first meeting between the two schools, with plenty more to come with Union joining the league.
UAH returns home next Tuesday, October 2, when they take on North Alabama at 7:00 p.m.
