Men's Soccer Falls 3-1 To Visiting West Florida

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team fell by a 3-1 score to visiting West Florida on Friday afternoon at Charger Park. UWF moves to 4-2-1 (3-0-1 Gulf South Conference) while the Chargers fall to 1-8 (0-5 GSC).

The game began under threatening skies, and just under five minutes into the contest play was halted due to lightning in the area. After the delay, neither team was able to generate much until West Florida put a pair of rapid shots on Michael Winstone's goal in the 23rd minute, and the freshman keeper turned away both  for two of the impressive 11 saves he would make on the day.

The Argos, however, would strike late in the half as they scored in the 35th and 39th minutes to take a 2-0 lead.

Less than a minute later in the 40th, the Chargers capitalized as Ragnar Leosson took a ball from Kyle Simmons to cut the deficit in half with his team-leading fifth goal of the season making the score 2-1 at the halftime break.

Leosson owns the team lead in points also as he owns 12 on the season while the helper gives Simmons 10 points for the year.

The score remained at that mark for much of the second half despite the lopsided shot total as West Florida owned a 27-4 advantage in shots including a 14-1 edge in shots on goal.

Able to turn one of those shots into the score that iced the contest, the Argos tacked onto the lead in the 80th to produce the 3-1 final.

UAH returns to the Charger Park pitch on Sunday when the team hosts first-year program West Alabama at 4:30 p.m.
