Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team picked up a much-needed victory on the road Saturday, defeating Union University 3-1.
The Lady Chargers (8-7, 2-3 GSC) dropped the first set to one of the newest teams in the GSC in Union (3-10, 0-6 GSC), but rallied to take the next three sets and come away with their second conference victory of the season.
The first set was back and forth throughout, until Union made a 7-0 run when UAH was leading 17-15. The Lady Bulldogs would go on to win the set 25-17, but it would be the only set victory they would take from the visitors.
The second set ended closer than UAH would have wanted, after the Lady Chargers went on both a 7-0 run and a 5-0 run midway through the set.
Kelly Wilson helped service the first rally, while
Kirsten Rousseau led the way for the second. They would fend off Union 25-23, after taking the final two points with the set tied at 23 apiece.
UAH used a 7-0 run in the third set with the match tied at 6-6. The Lady Chargers would go up 15-7 and never look back, taking set number three 25-17, and the 2-1 match lead.
The Lady Chargers played strong in the fourth set, again holding off the host Lady Bulldogs for a 25-22 win. UAH took five of the final eight points and would secure the road victory.
Angela Thurmond was an attack once again for UAH, leading the match and tea with 16 kills and three blocks.
Senior
Kelsey Williams played one of her better games of the season, recording 15 kills and four blocks.
Haley Snyder and
Olivia Bauman were the other two Lady Chargers who led the attack offensively. Snyder finished with nine kills, while Bauman added seven of her own.
Senior-setter
Kelly Wilson did all the set up work for her attackers, as she finished with a game-high 38 assists.
Kennedie Lariscy did her usual part defensively, finishing with 16 digs in the contest.
The win moves UAH to game over .500 overall and a game under in the GSC.
The Lady Chargers return home on Tuesday, October 2, when they welcome in rival North Alabama to Spragins Hall. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
