UAH Volleyball Set to Host Home Tournament

LIVE STATS
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
The Lady Charger volleyball team is set to host their annual Country Inn & Suites Tournament this coming weekend, as UAH will play four matches in three days.

A total of eight teams will take part in the tournament this year. Three teams from the Gulf South Conference will be making the trip to Huntsville, as West Georgia, West Alabama and newly-acquainted Union University will all compete.

Also joining the field will be SIAC members Albany State and Paine; Florida Tech will make the long trip representing the Sunshine State Conference, while Henderson State will come over from Arkansas as a member of the Great American Conference.

The tournament begins Thursday night at 5:00 p.m., as West Alabama takes on Henderson State. That match will be followed by the home team, UAH, taking on Henderson State at 7:00 p.m.

UAH will then take on Albany State at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, followed by a match versus Florida Tech at 5:00 p.m.

The Lady Chargers wrap up their tournament with a match against Paine College on Saturday at 12:00 noon.

Head Coach Laura Taube hopes her team builds on some success they showed this past weekend competing at the HSU Classic in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

UAH went 2-2 in their four games there, defeating the likes of LeMoyne-Owen (3-0) and Henderson State (3-0) in straight sets. The Lady Chargers dropped matches against Texas A&M Commerce (0-3) and West Alabama (1-3).

Angela Thurmond and Kelsey Williams are leading the attack so far this season, as they both have tallied a team-high 36 kills. Thurmond was also named to the HSU Classic All-Tournament Team.

As expected, senior Kelly Wilson has been setting up her hitters beautifully through the first four games, as she has recorded 65 assists so far. Ashton Baker played a large role as well as she has racked up 60 assists.

Leading the way defensively has been Williams with 10 blocks and Kennedie Lariscy with 35 digs. Stacey Sargent has also been key as she has dug out 29 potential kills.

In last year's tournament, UAH went 2-3, winning their first two games before dropping their next three.

Tickets will be on sale each day at $6 for adults and $4 for students/kids. Children under two will be admitted free.
