Box Score CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team fell on Tuesday night, dropping a 4-2 decision on the road to host Lee. UAH slips to 5-4-1 (3-4-0 GSC) with the setback, while Lee improves to 4-3-2 (3-2-2 GSC).
Lee's Josh Ball recorded a hat trick in the contest, and he provided his team with a 2-0 halftime lead after scoring in the 11th and 27th minutes.
The break at the half provided an opportunity for the Chargers to adjust, and the team quickly put themselves back in the contest just over three minutes into the second half when junior
Kyle Simmons scored his GSC-leading 10th goal of the season to make it 2-1 as he received some help from the iron, bouncing it off the inside of the right post.
Receiving a spark from the goal, the Chargers seized the momentum over the next several minutes and had a pair of strong chances that were just missed as the team sought to earn the equalizer.
Lee then halted the UAH pressure for a moment when Arturo Rocha was able to score on a perfectly placed free kick from distance in the 55th minute to push the hosts back on top by a two-goal advantage in the 55th minute.
Pulling the Chargers back within one,
Anthony Benitez scored in the 67th minute to make it 3-2. With the goal, Benitez – who entered the contest ranked 18th in Division II in assists – slid into second on the team in points with nine on the year.
Ball, however, would ice the contest for the Flames in the 82nd as he completed his three-goal night.
The contest was an evenly-played affair as UAH ended the contest with a 15-14 advantage in shots, and the two teams were even in shots on goal with seven each. Corner kicks were also square on the night as both teams attempted four.
The Chargers will now return home for a key four-game homestand against GSC opponents beginning when Delta State visits on Friday. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Charger Park.
