UAH Wins at Home Again, Defeats Lee 3-2

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team picked up a big win on Friday night, defeating visiting Lee in thrilling fashion by a 3-2 score. The Lady Chargers improve to 12-19 (7-10 Gulf South Conference), while the Flames drop to 15-18 (11-6 GSC).

UAH also moved to 8-2 at Spragins Hall with the victory.

The victory was especially impressive considering the start to the night as the Flames eased by UAH in the first set, hitting at a .317 clip en route to a 25-14 victory in the stanza as the Lady Chargers were limited to a hitting percentage of .022 in the frame.

The second set was perhaps the most exciting of the match as it would require extra points.

Finding itself down 24-22, UAH would fend off the Lee set point while scoring three straight to grab a 25-24 lead. Lee would knot the frame at 25-25, but consecutive kills by Rachel Brugman and Kendall Knisely would give UAH the 27-25 triumph to tie the contest at 1-1.

Brugman would finish the match with a team-best 17 kills as she registered a .500 swinging percentage on the night.

The Lady Chargers would take the next set 25-21 before falling 25-14 in the fourth to force the fifth set in which UAH recorded five of its total nine blocks in the match on the way to a 15-11 win to capture the match.

Both teams were tough defensively on the evening as Lee totaled 117 digs while UAH registered 92 led by Stacey Sargent's 27. Four other Lady Chargers recorded double figures in scoops as Alexis Deal notched 22, followed by Halley Snyder's 14, Ashton Baker's 13, and Kennedie Lariscy's 11.

Baker and Deal both recorded double-doubles as Baker assisted on 30 successful attacks while Deal added 14 helpers, and Snyder also recorded a double-double with 13 kills to go with her defensive plays.

Deal was also strong at the net as she totaled six blocks on the evening.

UAH will wrap up the regular season on Saturday as Shorter visits for Senior Day. The first serve is slated for 2 p.m.
