About the Lady Chargers
MORE ABOUT TUESDAY: The Lady Chargers did not just set program records in the 134-44 win over Hiwassee in the team's season opener. Indeed, UAH established a Gulf South Conference record, besting the previous mark of 132 that was set by former GSC members Henderson State and Lincoln Memorial. UAH also set the league record for points in a half with 76, and the team's 56 successful field goals surpassed Delta State's performance of 54 in a game against Dillard in the 1985-86 season.
Â
GETTING IN ON THE ACTION: All 11 of the Lady Chargers earned at least 12 minutes on the floor in the season opener on Tuesday, and six players – Jasmine Hammon, Kendra Jones, Alysse Bishop, Dina Saunders, Shannon Steinert, and Jordan Smith – were able to tally around 20 minutes in the contest.
Â
EARLY IMPORTANCE: Saturday's contest at Montevallo is an early challenge for the Lady Chargers as it holds extra value as an in-region game for UAH. The obvious goal for the Lady Chargers is to win the automatic berth granted to the champion of the Gulf South Conference tournament, but should UAH need an at-large berth to make it to a third consecutive NCAA tournament, the team will need to pick up some strong in-region wins like a win on Saturday would represent.
About the Opponent
SCOUTING THE FALCONS: Montevallo opened up the new year on Wednesday, falling in Rome, Ga., to Shorter – the first of four GSC-affiliated institutions that Montevallo is playing to begin the season. Three Falcons scored in double figures including Taylor Beverly who tallied a team-best 24 points. On the night, UM shot 32.1 percent from the floor including a 5-for-15 mark from 3-point land.
Series History
UAH owns a 31-28 advantage in the all-time series, including wins in each of the past two seasons. Jordan Smith and Jasmine Hammon were terrific against the Falcons last year, scoring 23 and 22 on the road, respectively.
