UAH Falls in Five Sets to Shorter on Senior Day

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The UAH volleyball team suffered a tough five-set loss to Shorter on senior day at Spragins Hall Saturday afternoon. The loss puts UAH at 12-20 (7-11 GSC) as Shorter improves to 21-9 (13-5) on the season.

Despite the setback, the Lady Chargers gave the fans a valiant effort in the final home game of the season as three out of the five sets were decided by two points, including the third set where it took extra points to decide the set. 

Olivia Bauman and Rachel Brugman both led UAH with 14 kills as Saturday was the second-straight game Brugman has amassed double-digit kills in her best two game stretch of the season, averaging 15.5 kills.

Haley Snyder was right behind with 12 kills while Stacey Sargent led with a team-high 21 digs. Ashton Baker reached the 40-assist plateau for the fifth time this season to go along with 14 digs for the junior's 22nd second double-double of the year.

The Lady Chargers held a lead by as much as nine in the first set 19-10. However, Shorter went on a 13-5 run to cut the lead to one, 24-23. With one point needed to take the first set, Baker set up Snyder for a kill to go up 1-0 heading into the second set.

In the second set, it was UAH's turn to come back while trailing Shorter 17-10. The Lady Chargers scored eight of the next 10 points to trail by just one point. Kendall Knisley held serve for five of the points while Snyder contributed with two kills during the run and Brugman chipped in with a kill as well.

UAH would fall in the second set however as shorter finished the set with a 6-2 spurt to claim the second set 25-20.

With the Lady Chargers needing just one point to take the third set, the Lady Hawks would score the final three points to take the set 27-25.

The Lady Chargers went on to take the fourth set 25-23. UAH jumped out to an early 20-10 lead before a furious Shorter rally cut the Lady Chargers' lead to just one. On the ensuing rally, Knisley 's kill clinched a fifth and final set between the two opponents.

UAH's rally in the fifth set would fall short as Shorter finished on a 7-2 run to capture the match 15-10. 

Both Stacey Sargent and Kristin Wyatt were honored before the game, as the pair of seniors played their final games at Spragins Hall.

UAH will return to action when they head to Pensacola, Fla. for the GSC Tournament next weekend.
