Box Score FLORENCE, Ala. – For the first time since 1994, the University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team defeated North Alabama in Florence on Tuesday night by a final of 3-1.
UAH (11-16, 6-7 GSC) finished the season sweep of the Lady Lions (6-19, 4-9 GSC), having already won their match at home this season. The Lady Chargers fell in the second set, but won three out of four by finals of 26-24, 25-19 and 25-20.
Despite trailing late in the opening set 23-22, UAH sparked their night by winning four of the next five points to take an early set lead.
Haley Snyder started the rally with a kill, then later serviced a pair of winning points, thanks to a block assist by
Rachel Brugman and
Ashton Baker and a UNA error.
The Lady Chargers would again come through late in the set in the third, winning seven of the final nine points scored when leading by only one at 18-17.
Kendall Knisley was the catalyst during that run, recording two block assists and a kill.
Keeping their theme of the night going with late set wins, UAH came through yet again with the set tied at 19-19 to rally off a 25-20 win. Brugman notched two kills and a block assist during that run, which gave the Lady Chargers their first win in Flowers Hall in 19 years.
Ashton Baker recorded her 17th double double of the season, assisting on 24 points and digging out 10 balls. For the sixth time this season,
Stacey Sargent finished with at least 20 digs in a match as she tallied 20 against the Lady Lions.
Snyder and Bauman each led the team in kills with 10.
North Alabama was led by Jessi Blackstock with 14 kills.
The Lady Chargers will seek their fourth-straight win this Friday when they visit West Alabama.
