Lady Chargers Welcome VSU To Town For Blue Out

LIVE STATS | LIVE AUDIO | LIVE VIDEO
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
Returning home from a three-game road swing, the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team is set to host Valdosta State at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Thursday night with tip slated for 5:30 p.m. UAH enters the contest at 9-12 (6-5 Gulf South Conference), while VSU is 11-8 (3-7 GSC).

All fans are encouraged to wear blue to the game, and to help Spragins Hall turn blue, the Off Campus Bookstore is offering a special True Blue UAH Basketball t-shirt for just $10. A proud supporter of UAH athletics, the Off Campus Bookstore is located at 1009 Henderson Road in Huntsville.

The Lady Chargers are 6-1 in home games, and reigning GSC Player of the Week Jasmine Hammon has been particularly strong as she is averaging 20.0 points per game in home contests which is nearly two points more than her season average of 18.3 points per contest.

That scoring average is the second best in the GSC while it also ranks Hammon 25th in the country in scoring.

In the earlier meeting this season between the two squads, Hammon was one of three Lady Chargers who scored in double figures as she tallied 12. Jordan Smith paced the team with 16 points, while Natalie Kelley notched a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

UAH led for more than 30 minutes in the contest, but a VSU layup with 21 seconds left in the game broke a 51-51 tie as the Lady Blazers would eventually capture a 54-51 victory.

Courtney Sprague led VSU with 15 points.

Both teams are coming off wins that snapped losing streaks as UAH defeated West Alabama this past Saturday to halt a four-game skid, while VSU's win over North Alabama stopped a slide of three games.

Valdosta State is one of the tougher defensive teams in the conference, limiting its opponents to connect on just 34.6 percent of their attempts from the field, and on the offensive side of the floor, the Lady Blazers are paced by Brittney Nelson who is averaging 13.7 points per contest.

Live stats, audio and video for the contest will be available at uahchargers.com.
