Box Score VALDOSTA, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team travelled to Valdosta State on Monday evening and dropped an 89-81 decision to the Lady Blazers in Gulf South Conference action. UAH slips to 7-4 (2-3 GSC) with the loss, while Valdosta State improves to 8-2 (3-1 GSC).

Valdosta State remains perfect at home with the win despite an effort from the Lady Chargers that saw four players score in double figures.

Jordan Smith paced UAH with a double-double as she scored 24 and grabbed 10 rebounds, and
Jasmine Hammon nearly joined her in garnering a double-double, scoring 16 while collecting eight rebounds. Joining them in double figures and registering a career-best in scoring was
Kendra Jones who scored 13, and
Shannon Steinert chipped in with 11.

The visitors had a terrific first half, shooting 42.9 percent in the period while using a 27-11 run after the game was tied at 12-12 near the midway point to open up a 16-point advantage at 39-23 at the halftime break.

After Steinert made a layup fall to start the second half, Valdosta State ripped off an 11-0 run to close in on the Lady Chargers at 41-34 with 16:52 left, but UAH was able to keep the hosts at bay for a while and enjoyed a 60-54 lead after a Smith basket with 7:55 remaining.

Another strong spurt by the Lady Blazers completely turned the game, however, as a 21-4 run provided VSU with an 11-point, 75-64 advantage at the 2:12 mark, and though UAH would narrow the gap to as close as four in the final moments, the Lady Blazers would convert free throws down the stretch to capture the win.

UAH was outshot on the evening by VSU by a 44.6 percent to 39.2 percent clip, but the Lady Chargers dominated on the glass with 51 rebounds to VSU's 36.

The Lady Chargers will continue GSC play on the road on Thursday when they travel to Shorter, and the team will return home on Saturday to face West Georgia at 3 p.m.
