Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 24 UAH Wins Yet Another Match in Extra Time

HUNTSVILLE | The No. 24 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team won its fourth overtime contest of the season, knocking off visiting Lee 2-1 in the second session of extra time on Wednesday night at Charger Park. UAH improves to 10-2-0 (5-1-0 Gulf South Conference) with the victory, while Lee slips to 6-4-2 (1-2-1 GSC).

The Chargers have now won 10 games in consecutive seasons for the first time since the 1997-98 seasons, and the triumph moves UAH to a perfect 6-0 at home this year.

With time running down and the contest threatening to end in a draw, De Smedt made sure the home side would earn all three points as he fired a shot off from near the top of the box into the upper left corner to spark what has become a familiar raucous celebration on the Charger Park pitch.

For De Smedt, the goal is his second consecutive game-winner as he also scored UAH's lone goal against Shorter last Friday night.

After a scoreless first half, it was UAH who opened the scoring in this one as John Imwalle headed in James Ballamy's corner in the 66th minute to put the Chargers on top 1-0 while giving the transfer from West Alabama his first goal in the Blue and White.

Just over 10 minutes later in the 76th, however, Lee would tie the contest when Barrett Mills scored his first of the season to make it 1-1.

The Chargers almost immediately answered in the 79th, but Bailey Oliver's attempt hit the corner of the woodwork to keep the score level, and Michael Winstone would make a terrific save in the 88th minute to prevent Lee from taking the late advantage.

Winstone finished the night with three saves while earning his ninth win of the season.

UAH held a 22-16 advantage in shots on the night including a 10-5 edge in attempts that reached the frame. Lee held an 8-7 margin in corners.

The Chargers will look to continue their winning ways when they travel to West Florida on Friday. Kickoff in Pensacola is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
