Jannah Scores Three as UAH Prevails 4-3 in Overtime

PHOTOS | HIGHLIGHTS
HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team could not have scripted a better finish to the 2014 campaign as the Chargers won 4-3 in overtime over visiting Carson-Newman behind Khadjiah Jannah's Senior Night hat trick. The Chargers finish the year at 6-10, while the Eagles leave the Rocket City at 3-13.

After seeing the visitors tie the contest in the 88th minute, the Blue and White wasted no time earning the winning goal as Alexcia Alexander's attempt was saved by the Carson-Newman keeper, but the rebound ended up at the feet of Jannah who buried it home for her third goal of the night while giving the Chargers the thrilling 4-3 win.

Jannah finishes her time in Huntsville with 33 goals after the terrific performance on Wednesday night.

The Eagles opened the scoring, tallying just under two minutes into the game when Mikayla Gregg scored her third of the season, but the Chargers would answer when Isabel Shanteau notched her third of the season in the 28th minute off a great ball from Jill Young.

Jannah then took over the contest, quickly providing UAH with the lead as she scored in the 29th minute, burying a pass from Alexander, and she provided the hosts with a 3-1 halftime lead when she tallied for the second time of the night in the 34th minute. The second strike was an especially strong play as Jannah passed it to Riley Ridgeway in tight on goal, and Ridgeway gave it right back to Jannah who fired it into the back of the net.

Carson-Newman would score just over seven minutes after the half in the 53rd when Jamie DePaul scored, and Gregg forced the extra period with her strike in the 88th minute.

Finishing the season with 24 points on 10 goals and four assists, Jannah ends the year as UAH's leading scorer, just one point ahead of the freshman Alexander who scored 10 and had three assists for 23 points on the year.

Larae Breaux earned the win in goal for the Chargers, giving the freshman six victories in her debut season.

Carson-Newman outshot the Chargers by a 17-12 margin, but UAH was able to earn seven corners on the night while only conceding one to the visiting side.

Prior to the contest, Jannah and the rest of the team's seniors -- Marie Blunt, Gillian Harding, Natalie Harding, and Alex Petermann -- were honored as the group played its final contest on the Charger Park pitch.
