MEMPHIS | A late penalty kick goal was the only score as the No. 21 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team fell 1-0 to host Christian Brothers on Friday night. The setback drops the Chargers to 7-2-0 (2-1-0 Gulf South Conference), while the Bucs improve to 6-2-0 (2-1-0 GSC).
Â
The hosts were awarded the penalty kick in the 71st minute, and the GSC's leading scorer Jose Ferraz stepped up to the spot and buried for his ninth goal of the season.
Â
UAH attempted to earn the equalizer, applying great pressure in the final 19 minutes that resulted in five shots including a pair of strong opportunities from senior
Kyle Simmons in the 83rd and 89th minutes.
Â
Owning an advantage in shots on the night were the Bucs who outshot the visiting side by a 14-10 margin, and five of CBU's attempts were on frame while two of UAH's were on target. The Chargers earned five corners – including three after the Bucs scored – while CBU totaled a pair.
Â
A total of 28 fouls were whistled in the contest, and the referee went to the book a combined seven times.
Â
The Chargers will look to bounce back on Sunday when the team travels to Union for a 4:15 p.m. kickoff
