Chargers Face Valdosta State in GSC Tournament Opener

TOURNAMENT TIME: The Chargers are in the GSC Tournament for fourth straight season, following a 10-10 record in league games this season. UAH holds the sixth seed heading into the tournament. Last season, UAH fell in the opening match to Christian Brothers in five sets.

BEST OF THE GSC: Senior Ashton Baker and freshman Anna Claire Johnson were named to the All-GSC Second Team on Monday by the conference office. Baker led the Chargers with 667 assists and was fourth in the conference with an average of 8.78 assists per set, while Johnson was sixth in the GSC with 2.75 kills per set.

LAST WEEK: The Chargers lost on Tuesday to Lee, but won on Senior Night at home against West Alabama in four sets. Baker shined with 49 assists and 13 digs, while Jordan Morrison, Haley Snyder and Johnson totaled 14 kills apiece.

PRIORITY DEFENSE: Junior Kennedie Lariscy has anchored the defense in the 2014 campaign, leading UAH with 368 digs. She totaled ten or more digs in all but three contests this season, and is seventh in the conference with a 3.64 digs per set average.

MATCHUP HISTORY: The Chargers have lost both matches to Blazers this season, a five-set stumble at home and a three-set loss on the road. UAH owns a 24-17 all-time record against Valdosta State.

VALDOSTA PROFILE: The Blazers earned the third seed in the GSC Tournament after a 16-4 record in conference play this season. VSU is second in the conference in hitting percentage (.206) and are first in the league with 237 total blocks in 2014.
