VALDOSTA, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville (16-13) volleyball team's season came to an end on Tuesday night following a three-set loss to Valdosta State (22-7) in the Gulf South Conference Tournament Quarterfinals matchup.
The Chargers were firing on all cylinders at the outset of the first frame, taking an early 6-0 advantage over the Blazers. Valdosta State tied the set at 12-12, and the stanza would remain a back-and-forth affair until VSU scored six of the final seven points for a 25-22 win.
UAH played tightly with VSU again in the second set, and even taking a 25-24 lead late in the frame. The Blazers went on to win the second, 27-25, on three straight kills by Jenna Kirkwood, who would finish the match with a game-high 16 kills. The Chargers had strong attacking in the second, totaling 19 successful swings on a .341 hitting percentage.
Valdosta State sealed the three-set victory with a 25-18 win in the third stanza. UAH was outhit by VSU, .216-.073, during the frame.
Junior
Olivia Bauman and freshman
Jordan Morrison led the UAH attack with 11 kills apiece. Morrison swung .333 for the match, which was bested by
Kendall Knisley at .462 with eight kills.
Senior
Ashton Baker finished her career with her 13th double-double of the 2014 season with a team-high 37 assists and 11 digs. Junior
Kennedie Lariscy notched a team-best 14 digs and finished the season with a total of 382 digs to lead the Chargers defense.
