HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville (3-11-2, 2-8-0 WCHA) hockey team fell to No. 6 Michigan Tech (12-2-0, 10-2-0 WCHA) in the conference series finale by 5-2 on Saturday night at the Von Braun Center.

Michigan Tech was the first to score on Saturday night as Tanner Kero put in an unassisted goal 3:39 into the first to take a 1-0 advantage over UAH. MTU's lead held through the first 20 minutes of play.

However, UAH bounced back with a goal at 14:25 of the second by sophomore Brandon Carlson, his third of the year, immediately following a face-off win by freshman Brennan Saulnier. Saulnier now has six assists in his rookie campaign.

The Huskies answered the Chargers equalizer with a score 17:52 into the second frame by Walker Hyland and then went on to add a goal by Alex Petan in the final minute of the period to make it a 3-1 Huskies lead.

Junior Frank Misuraca posted his fourth goal of the season 6:57 into the third period to cut the Huskies lead to one, but Michigan Tech went on to add goals at 8:13 by Malcolm Gould and 18:56 by Blake Hietala to make it a 5-2 final.

Sophomore Matt Larose took the loss in goal for the Chargers on Saturday night, despite stopping 32 shots on the night. Larose saved a game-high 13 shots in the first period.

The Chargers totaled 15 shots on goal in the series finale. Junior Jack Prince led the way with three shots, followed by Craig Pierce and Matt Salhany with two shots on goal apiece.

UAH hockey is off the following weekend, but will be back in action on Dec. 12-13 when the squad heads to Alaska for a WCHA series.
