Jordan Morrison led UAH with 10 kills and a .500 swinging percentage.
SENIOR NIGHT: UAH volleyball will be honoring senior
Ashton Baker as she plays her final home game at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Thursday. The Milton, Florida native has been a catalyst to the Chargers offense, totaling a team-high 618 assists. Baker is fourth in the GSC averaging 8.58 assists per set, and currently has a career average of 6.75. She has also completed 11 double-doubles in 2014 with assists and digs.
GSC POSITION: The Chargers are currently 9-10 in league games this season, good for the sixth seed in the conference heading into the West Alabama contest. Ahead of UAH in the standings are Shorter (16-2), West Florida (15-3), Valdosta State (14-4), North Alabama (14-6) and Christian Brothers (12-6). The GSC Tournament will be held on Nov. 11 and Nov. 15-16.
FRESHMEN FOUNDATION: Second-year head coach
Keith Giboney has seen a rise out of the newcomers on the roster, especially in freshmen
Anna Claire Johnson,
Kirsten Giles and
Jordan Morrison. Johnson has received the most recognition with back-to-back GSC Freshman of the Week honors, and is also seventh in the league with 2.72 kills per set. Giles also earned GSC Freshman of the Week earlier in the year and has totaled eight matches with 20 assists or more. Morrison has tabulated eight matches with 10 kills or better, while completing swinging percentages of .330 or more on 13 occasions.
About the Tigers...
LOOKING BACK: At 15-12 with one match to play in the regular season, UAH will finish the year with a regular season overall record above .500 for the first time since the 2005 campaign, when the Chargers ended the year at 24-13. Coach Giboney has accumulated a 27-33 record in his first two seasons at UAH.
RECENT ACTION: West Alabama enters with 7-11 record within the GSC, following a three-set loss at home to North Alabama. Last weekend, UWA travelled to West Florida and lost in four sets to the Argos.
KEY CONTRIBUTORS: Yanesha Johnson leads the Tigers with 260 kills, while Elizabeth Culhane has the highest hitting percentage at .256. Defensively, Lindsey Ball leads the Tigers with 401 digs and Jessica Voyles has a team-high 78 total blocks.
MATCHUP HISTORY: The Chargers hold a 34-26 all-time series record against the Tigers, after a four-set win earlier this season in Livingston, Alabama. Last season UAH topped UWA in five sets at Spragins Hall, thanks in part to 19 kills by junior
