No. 22 UAH Dominates West Georgia in Key Road Win

CARROLLTON, Ga. | The No. 22 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team defeated West Georgia on the road Sunday, picking up a terrific 79-62 victory. The Chargers move to 9-1 (4-0 Gulf South Conference), while UWG slips to 7-1 (2-1 GSC).
 
In the contest, UAH senior Ronnie Mack scored his 1,000th career point to become the 23 player in program history to reach that scoring plateau. The Birmingham, Alabama, native surpassed the mark with a layup with 47 seconds left in the first half.
 
Preston Herring turned in a tremendous performance for the Chargers, recording his third double-double of the season as he scored 17 and grabbed 18 rebounds, and the junior from Lester, Alabama, added six blocks and three assists.
 
UAH's scoring leader was Seab Webster who hit four 3-pointers on his way to scoring 23, while Greg Gardner matched him with 17 points while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out four assists. Mack added 11 to round out UAH's quartet of double-figure scorers.
 
Deonta Stocks led UWG with 34 points.
 
The Chargers started the game off strong, roaring out to a 14-1 lead in less than four minutes, and the lead would grow to as high as 19 points at 27-8 at the 11:58 mark of the opening half. West Georgia would narrow the deficit to single-digits with 6:47 remaining in the period, but UAH build its lead to 46-31 at the half.
 
UAH then would lead by as many as 22 points in the second half en route to the victory over the previously undefeated Wolves.
 
For the game, UAH shot 46.4 percent and connected on 7-of-18 from 3-point land, and the Chargers held West Georgia to a shooting performance of 33.3 percent. The visitors also held a wide margin on the glass, collecting 50 rebounds to UWG's 33.
 
Spencer Palmer was second behind Herring with nine boards to go along with his six points.
 
UAH will continue GSC action on the road on Thursday when the Chargers travel to Shorter. Tip-off in Rome, Georgia, is slated for 7 p.m. CST.
