FAIRBANKS, Alaska | The University of Alabama in Huntsville (3-13-2, 2-10-0 WCHA) dropped the conference series finale to Alaska (9-8-0, 4-7-0 WCHA) by a score of 4-0 on Saturday night at the Carlson Center.
The Nanooks jumped out early in the first period to a 2-0 lead following goals by Nolan Huysmans at the 6:01 mark on a power play and Tyler Morley at 7:48 of the first frame. Despite being down early, sophomore goalie
Matt Larose stopped seven shots in the initial 20 minutes of play.
Alaska added its third goal of the evening by Josh Atkinson on a power-play opportunity at 9:07 of the second period to take a three-goal advantage over UAH. The Nanooks were able to add another goal in the third frame on a score by Marcus Basara to cap the UAF scoring effort and bring the game to its 4-0 final.
The Chargers managed 14 shots on Nanooks' goalie Davis Jones who registered his third shutout of the 2014-15 campaign. UAH was led by
Chad Brears,
Brandon Carlson and
Alex Carpenter who each had two shots on goal apiece.
Larose finished with 37 saves in the loss on Saturday night. The Nanaimo, British Columbia native has had 30-plus saves in each of his seven starts this year.
UAH looks ahead to a non-conference series at Nebraska Omaha next weekend. Puck drops at 7:07 p.m. on Saturday night and 5:07 p.m. on Sunday evening.
