HIGHLIGHTS | PHOTOS
HUNTSVILLE | Every Charger that played also scored, leading the 15th-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville to an 83-51 romp over Valdosta State in Gulf South Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers improve to 7-1 (2-0 Gulf South Conference), while VSU slips to 5-2 (0-2 GSC).

Ronnie Mack was on fire from beyond the arc in the contest, leading UAH with 21 points on the strength of a 7-for-8 day from 3-point land, while freshman Kip Owens recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Rounding out UAH's contingent of double-figure scorers, Seab Webster chipped in with 10.

With the strong showing, Mack pulled to within 14 points of the 1,000-point plateau for his career.

The Blazers – led on the day by Josh Lemons who scored nine – enjoyed a 9-7 advantage at the 14:20 mark of the opening half, but with Mack hitting six of his treys in the period, the Chargers would take control of the contest and carried a 45-29 lead into the halftime break after Owens made a jumper fall at the buzzer.

Limiting the Blazers to a second-half shooting mark of 29 percent, the hosts continued to dominate in the closing stanza, leading by as many as 37 points in the half.

UAH held Valdosta State to shoot just 33.8 percent for the game while connecting on 53.4 percent of its attempts, including a strong 60 percent clip in the first half. The Chargers were also hot from beyond the arc, shooting 13-of-24 for 54.2 percent compared to a 15 percent showing for the Blazers.

With Owens' 11 boards leading the way, the Chargers also held the advantage on the glass in the contest, outrebounding VSU 38-33.

For good measure, the Memphis native Owens also added a team-best five assists, while Preston Herring collected nine boards to go along with three blocks to give him a GSC-best 17 on the season.

The Chargers will wrap up the conference homestand on Thursday when West Alabama visits. Tip-off on the UAH campus is set for 7:30 p.m.
