LAST WEEK: The Chargers split their two matches this past week, picking up a win over Christian Brothers on Tuesday and falling on Saturday to North Alabama. UAH is currently tied for third in the GSC standings.
SWEET SWINGING: Sophomore
Rachel Brugman led the UAH offense this week with 12 kills on a .522 hitting percentage. The Chandler, Arizona native posted six kills apiece against Christian Brothers and North Alabama. Brugman also swung a season-high .545 against UNA. The Chargers as a team are second in the conference with a .219 hitting percentage.
SETTING THE OFFENSE: Freshman
Kirsten Giles and senior
Ashton Baker have combined for 344 assists so far in 2014. Giles currently sits at fifth in the conference averaging 7.55 assists per set, with Baker ranked seventh at 7.42 assists per set. A Hazel Green, Alabama native, Giles posted a career-high 50 assists against Christian Brothers.
ABOUT THE HAWKS: Shorter enters the week with a 5-0 record in the GSC and are tied with No. 18 West Florida for the top spot in the league. The Hawks come off a weekend that included three-set wins against West Alabama and Mississippi College.
MATCHUP HISTORY: The Chargers own a 1-6 all-time record against the Hawks. The last matchup ended in a five-set loss for UAH. Brugman recorded 14 kills with a .444 hitting percentage in the match.
LOOKING AHEAD: Tuesday's matchup at Shorter will wrap the three-game road swing for UAH. The Chargers will then come home for three matches beginning on Friday at 7 p.m., against Mississippi College. UAH also welcomes Valdosta on Saturday and Lee next Tuesday, Sept. 30 during the homestand.
